THE Senate has warned President Muhammadu Buhari and top officials of his administration to refrain from embarking on foreign trips for medical attention while the State House Clinic, built to cater for their health needs, continues to be inefficient.
The lawmakers said this on Thursday when the State House presented its 2021 budget to the National Assembly.
A budget of N19.7bn was presented by the State House Permanent Secretary, Tijani Umar, for 2021. Out of this, N1.3bn was earmarked for the State House Clinic.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator Danjuma La’ah, said the committee would approve the budget for the State House Clinic, but warned the State House representative that the President and those entitled to use the State House Clinic should no longer be flown abroad for medical treatment.
The Permanent Secretary, who spoke to newsmen after the presentation, said, once the lawmakers approved the budget, necessary arrangements would be put in place to ensure that the State House Clinic was put in good shape for the medical needs of the President and others.
