#EndSARS: Protesters shut out civil servants in Alausa

FOLASHADE KEHINDE

#EndSARS protesters, on Monday, grounded activities at the Lagos State Secretariat in Alausa.

The entrances to the secretariat were blocked by the youths that have been protesting for days against police brutality, extra-judicial killings and insecurity, among others.

Civil servants, who had hoped to be able to work, were prevented from doing so, as some who had already found their ways into the secretariat before the gates were locked, were also trapped inside, The Point learnt.

A worker with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, who simply identified himself as Tajudeen, told our correspondent that he would find his way back home and seize the opportunity to rest again after the weekend.

“We knew this might happen. But some of my bosses were saying that those who refused to show up at work using #EndSARS as an excuse would be penalised. I was told that the protests might not be allowed to happen,” he said.

The protests, it was gathered, started at the Lagos State House of Assembly complex, while the protesters ensured that all gates were locked.

Another civil servant, who spoke to our correspondent, said she would rather stay at home until there was an all-clear to go to work.

“My husband was telling me to stay at home. I refused, saying all my colleagues said we must be at work. I didn’t find it too hard getting here. But when the momentum gathers, no one knows what could happen,” the lady, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told our correspondent.

The gates at Adeyemi Borough Auditorium, Mosque area, and others have been blocked, according to her.
