End Sars: Sex workers join protests, say ‘Yahoo Boys’ keeping them in business

COMMERCIAL sex workers have joined the ‘End Sars’ protests, saying Internet fraudsters, popularly called “Yahoo Boys” are the ones keeping them in business.

They took to the streets chanting “We can’t survive without Yahoo Boys”.

These set of youths, according to findings, patronise sex workers heavily and pay them well once they hit “their pay”, a commentator, Emeka Okoro, told The Point, adding that Nigerians should not reduce this struggle to an endorsement of crime in whatever form.

“We should be very careful about what we put out there. The quarrel is against extra-judicial killings. No one should endorse the crime being perpetuated by Yahoo Boys. They are criminals and should be dealt with the right way, not by killing suspects even when investigation has not been concluded,” the analyst said.

A lady who portrayed herself as a sex worker was heard in a video saying the policemen’s N500 patronage would not do anything for them (sex workers).

The End Sars protests have been on for about 72 hours now, with various celebrities and human rights activists leading the protests in different parts of the country.

On Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari directed the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to address the concerns of Nigerians regarding the excesses of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, in view of the protests across Nigeria.

In a Twitter statement late Friday night, the President expressed his determination to reform the Police Force and ensure that the operatives were fully accountable to Nigerians.

Buhari said, “The IG already has my firm instructions to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses and ensure erring personnel are brought to justice. I appeal for patience and calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known.

“The vast majority of men and women of the Nigeria Police Force are patriotic and committed to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, and we will continue to support them to do their job.”
