THE Police in Imo State have commenced investigation into circumstances surrounding the death of a woman, who reportedly died in the matrimonial home of her lover.
The woman (names undisclosed) reportedly died on Thursday at the residence of a married man, at MCC Road, Owerri, the Imo State capital.
A source close to the family, but who preferred anonymity, told journalists that the deceased had been smuggled into the house by the head of the house, who had taken his wife and children to celebrate the New Year at the village.
Residents of the area where the incident occurred were thrown into panic as the cause of the woman’s death could not be readily ascertained.
The source who spoke on the matter said, “The man took his family to the village, came back and took his mistress to a function. They attended a function together before going to his house.
“But the mistress died in the man’s house around midnight. The man has been arrested with the corpse evacuated.”
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident, said investigation had commenced into the cause of the death.
